Always shop with a List. If you go with out a list you are more likely to impulse buy and this is almost always bad. Impulse buying is a quick way to add an extra $25 -50 to your grocery bill.
Don`t go when you are hungry. When you are hungry every thing looks good, you might not stick to that List and you will end up spending a lot more money.
Have a budget. When I shop I always take cash so I`ll know exactly how much I can spend ( when I go with my debt card I tend to want to spend more). If you don`t know how much you have to spend then you will likely spend to much.
Keep track of how much you are putting in your cart. When my husband shops with me he always keeps track of how much each item costs and adds it up.
Always use coupons. When you use your coupons and add them with the sales you are going to get the best deals.
Stockpile up on items. The best way to save on your weekly groceries is to never pay full price. When you buy the items at the Dirt Cheap price you need to get a few so when you run out of the first item you go back to your pantry and pull out that second one you bought, when you are able to do this you are not at the mercy of the stores full price.
Shop during the slow times of the day. I like to shop in the morning, the meat counter is marking the meat down for the day, the fruit and vegetables seem fresher, there are not as many people shopping so I can take my time, and the store employees are in a good mood. Try to avoid shopping around 5 pm. Don`t shop the day before a major holiday. Everyone and their dog is doing their last minute shopping. So lines are long, you might not be able to find what you are looking for, everyone is in a hurry and not always in the holiday sprit.
Try to avoid the store on payday. On Friday nights the stores are so busy, everyone is trying to get ready for the weekend. If you have to shop on the weekend try shopping late Friday night or early Saturday morning. I know at first this might seem like a pain but part of saving money is also saving time. If you are able to cut out 1 hour of grocery shopping then wouldn`t it be worth it ?
Know the coupon policy at your store. How many coupons will they double or triple? Most chain stores are the same, but with that being said it all comes down to the store mgr. When shopping at a new location I always ask a cashier (before shopping) Take Albertsons, in the Fort Worth district they triple up to .39 and double up to .50. But I understand that in the Dallas district they only double these coupons.
